Find Frequent Words — free, and it runs in your browser

Rank the most common words in a text to check keyword density.

  • Each word’s share of the total is shown, because a raw count means little on its own.
  • A quick check on keyword density, repetition and the words you lean on too hard.
  • Common filler words can be excluded so the ranking says something useful.

Copy the table into a brief, a report or a content audit.

Why use Find Frequent Words

  • Density, not just counts

A raw count means nothing without the length of the text behind it. Each word’s share of the total is shown alongside it.

  • Filler words left out

Words like "the", "and" and "of" can be filtered out, so the list shows the words that carry the topic.

  • Your text stays in the page

What you paste is not transmitted or stored, so an API response full of customer records, a token or an internal query never leaves your machine.

Frequently asked questions

Density is how often a word appears as a percentage of total words. It is no longer a ranking factor — search engines stopped counting repetitions long ago. It is still useful as a writing check: a word at 6% or more usually means you are repeating yourself.

What word frequency actually tells you

Ranking the words in a piece of writing is an old SEO habit that has outlived its original purpose. Search engines no longer count keyword repetitions, and writing to hit a density target produces worse copy that ranks no better.

What the count is still good for is editing. Seeing that you used “essentially” eleven times, or that a supposedly wide-ranging article circles the same three nouns, is genuinely useful feedback. It also confirms at a glance whether a page is actually about the topic you intended.

Reading the numbers

Density is the word's share of all counted words after filtering. For a typical article, a main topic word landing somewhere between 0.5% and 2.5% is unremarkable. Much above that and the repetition is usually noticeable to a reader; much below it and the page may not be as focused as you think.

For overall length and reading time, use the word counter. To check a title or description against search result limits, use the meta tag generator.
